The place of residence is a legal term, which means a legally defined place in which the individual has a permanent and long-term dwelling.
Legal procedure
Determining the place of residence of an individual is important for determining the amount and place of taxes payable, for the performance of legal procedures (for example, in some countries registration of marriage is allowed only at the place of residence of one of those wishing to marry), for receiving services in state or municipal institutions (for example, In Russia and Ukraine from the place of residence of an individual depends on the list of services that he has the right to provide a specific municipal health care institution).
The legal procedure for the registration of a home as a "place of residence" in different countries is different and is determined according to the legal norms in force in the country in question. In some cases, when determining the "place of residence", first of all the actual place of stay of the individual is taken into account, in other cases the actual location of the individual does not matter and only the legal correctness of the procedure for registration is taken into account.
Place of residence, place of stay and registration
In Russia, the place of residence is usually understood as an administrative-territorial unit on the territory of which a person lives for more than six months a year (while under the place of residence - an administrative-territorial unit on whose territory the person lives for less than six months a year). In Russia and Ukraine, along with these two terms, the term registration is also used - entering information (indicating the address) in the passport or other passport document about the place of residence or place of stay of an individual, as well as entering this information into the registration records of the relevant specially authorized executive authority.
